Do you own a business? If not are there many people around who does? What was the age you started it? Specificate the field, please.

  1. My best friend opened a Cafe (coffee and sandwiches with periodic live music) in her early 40s. She then opened a resale clothing store at age 48.

  2. Someday I will be but today I am not.
I know a few small business owners in my demographic group.

  3. I’m a software developer, so I know a lot of people in software development who do freelancing & independent consulting and contracting. Which is running a business in the sense of handling your own taxes, invoicing, etc. but not in the sense of like, having a storefront where you interact with the general public or hiring employees.

I plan to eventually move to doing that part time as a sort of semi-retirement in a few years!

  4. Technically yes. My second job is private tutoring, which counts as self-employment & thus inherently a “business”. I started about 12 years ago.

  5. My wife, with a little help from me, has been running a business for the last 8 years. She is an author with 76 published books, romance.

  6. Yea I own a photography and videography business. I started it at 27, been going for 8 years. Have 4 full time employees.

  7. Yeah, I design/build custom furniture.

It’s my “second career” which I’ve been doing for about 7 years now.

My first career was somewhat related in that it was woodwork/craftsmanship/carpentry but I don’t want to say the specific field as I may doxx myself.

I worked at a grocery store when I was 16 (making $3.35/hr 😂) then a couple of rando jobs for a couple more years before deciding fuck that, I ain’t working for these fools.. so, on my own since age 19.

  8. I was acquainted with a guy who opened a baby clothing store. Apparently he has done incredibly well (moved locations twice now, doubled his staff).

  9. I do. I’ve been selling handmade jewelry as a side business for 10+ years. I sell online, and occasionally at art shows. It doesn’t make a ton of money, and I still have a full time job, but its a lot of fun. Yes, I do have it officially licensed as a business, and I have to pay sales tax and file a schedule C with my income taxes every year.

  10. I am 27 and I co-own an Auto Glass replacement business with my sister, started when I was 21 and it’s been incredibly stressful at times, nothing but hard work and many sacrifices, I’ve been fortunate enough to make a decent living out of it though and I enjoy it.

  11. I own my own business. I’ve been the sole owner for just over a year but was a part owner for several and involved with it for around 12 years. Pretty much my entire working life. I’m 33.

  12. My parents own a business. They sell baked goods out of their house for private orders and they have a few vendors they work with as well.

  13. I wouldn’t call it a business, but I buy cheap classic cars out of fields sometimes and get them driveable for sell.

  14. I have owned a number of small businesses. I think you will find that that’s true of many people, though some may not recognize themselves (or others) as such. If you’re a blogger or content creator and make money off of it, you own a business, if you freelance you run a business, etc.
I was a freelance makeup artist for several years, I’ve blogged and have made money off of tiktok. I briefly was an independent contractor working as a virtual assistant, I technically still own that business, however I moved about 5 months after starting and my client wanted someone who was local to her and I just haven’t done anything with it since.

  15. I’m not, and none of my close friends are. I know a few people who own their own businesses though.

My elementary-age son is on a club soccer team with mostly Hispanic kids, and several of their dads are business owners. A couple of them are software developers, one has some sort of marketing agency, and one owns a car lot.

  16. I do not own a business personally, but my family owns a sand and gravel company that my brother and I will inherit someday unless something unexpected happens. It was founded by my great grandpa and my great great grandpa to build airfields during World War II

  17. I don’t, but one of my daughters started a cat cafe at 25. It survived the plague and they are doing really well.

  18. I been running a car garage since I was 28 years old. Opened it in 2012 and I am partners with two others. It’s been a huge success

  19. I am the sole proprietor for a consulting business that specializes in evaluative research projects (primarily for private and charter schools, but I have done work for manufacturing firms and government agencies before too). I also briefly had a private tutoring business. Furthermore, I am in a partnership with my wife for private gifted homeschooling in which she teaches English and I teach high school kids to start their own businesses based on their hobbies.

My day job is being a university lecturer.

  20. Yes (32m American). I own a small media company. starting a business was extremely easy and only took a week or so in total. I did it to protect my personal assets when showing off my artwork. Having an LLC is a good buffer between you and someone who might try to sue you for whatever reason.

  21. My wife and I own a small department store. Housewares, toys, clothing, upscale groceries, wine, cheese case, deli and a cafe with catering. It keeps us quite busy, but we love it.
