Hello! I’m currently a senior in high school and I have a lovely boyfriend. I wanted to get him a good brand watch for him but I don’t really know any so I was wondering if other men have suggestions of specific watches or good brands??

Personally, I wanna get him something with a leather band and something pretty clean+simple looking since he is also a senior in high school. I just don’t want the watch to look crazy intricate but something decent that he can wear everyday. Also my budget on a watch would be $200… sorry if it’s cheap budget!
I want the watch to last for a while and hopefully he can use it well, thank you! 🙂

  1. Get one with a fabric band, it will last longer and will not pinch at his arm hair. Keeping that in mind with looking at reviews along with checking out features you should be fine as long as it’s name brand. There’s plenty of decent everyday watches out there. My best friend got me a Timex watch a few years ago and it’s done me well as an everyday watch.

  2. Don’t feel like you have to spend a ton of money. What you’ll really want to know is does he want a watch to USE or a watch to look good. People who are really into them generally have watches for every day wear and watches for dressing up. You’ll have to figure out which type you want to buy (or he wants to receive).

  3. a gshock will last forever but since you mentioned a leather band it sounds like you’re after something less sporty. timex, orient, casio edifice all have nice watches in that price range. maybe hop over to the watches sub and scroll there

  4. It depends entirely on your bf

I’m a big fan of Seiko’s and Citizen’s for entry level men’s watches though

Citizen might be a bit of a stretch on your budget (they do offer watches in that price range, but your selection will be limited), but you should be able to find a Seiko in that range that meshes with what you want.

In general, less is more unless your bf is the flashy type.

I’d go for something that isn’t busy and has nice clean lines.

[edit – keep in mind that a wristwatch isn’t meant to be particularly functional. It’s jewelry for men. Something simple will often be just as desirable as something busy.

For reference this is a list of the most popular rolexes (an expensive watch brand). Rolex offers significantly more elaborate watches, but their most desired watches tend to be their more simple watches (in terms of aesthetics).

Part of the appeal of watch culture is that a $20K watch looks like a $200 watch if you don’t know what you’re looking at.]

  5. As others said, it probably depends on your bf, does he like sporty, are smart functions a thing he wants, does he want it to look classy or flashy.

For a simple analog watch that imo looks good I was always very happy with Skagen until I switched to a smartwatch. Cannot recommend a smartwatch tho unless you absolutely need the tracking.

  6. First question: is he a watch type? My ex got me a huge watch, that i just dont wear cuz it feels bad to have something inhibit my movement so much… I did get a small fitbit this summer though and i love it!

  7. Tissot watches are well worth the extra bit of money for a swiss made. Otherwise seikos are great entries

  8. I’m not a watch guy but the Timex Expedition watches have served me well since I was a teen.

  9. You may be able to get a decent Hamilton used maybe. These can be real workhorses and last forever. Other than that go for Citizen.

  10. Seiko for looks, Casio for durability. As much as I like some of the nicer watches, the $20 Casio I got years ago is nearly invincible and keeps time impeccably.

$200 is an excellent budget for a daily-use watch. In reality, cheap modern digital timepieces are nearly perfect in their functionality. Almost all of the expense these days comes from either trying to make manual components than can match the performance of digital, adding in extra features so a digital watch becomes a mini-computer, or for brand-name value.

My advice would be to buy something that you think would look good on him, and not worry too much beyond that. For $200, any watch from a reputable brand is sure to function well.
