I read a lot of posts here where people in hook up mode use condoms as an STI risk mitigation. However there’s also a lot of discussion about rimming, giving head, and kissing. My question is, can the same STI‘s that people feel are risky enough to use a condom also be transmitted from one orifice to another via the mouth? And if so, why are people willing to take that oral bareback risk when they are worried enough to use a condom?

By way of background, my wife (F69) and I (M65) have been out of hook up mode for nearly 40 years. For a long time we passed yeast back-and-forth from between our genitals until we started cleaning up with Vagisil, which completely stopped it. Apart from that we have not had to think much about STI‘s, but reading the posts here got me thinking about it.

I’d appreciate all viewpoints on this thanks.

  1. Very definitely. Herpes, gonorrhea, and syphilis can all be present orally, anally, and vaginally. I would wager most STIs are the same.

As for why some don’t use protection with oral? Sigh. They aren’t thinking it through.
