It is entirely contextual.
A friend cancelling plans last minute with a silly excuse? That can slide plenty of times before I call them out. A partner who cheats? They don’t deserve another chance. Just two examples. Nobody has a “right” to be forgiven and given another chance. You don’t earn respect in the first place, it’s simply taken away if you don’t deserve it anymore.
Nobody is owed anything. Not a chance, not a glance, not a breath of air.
My personal standard is 3 strikes you’re out.

yes. it’s all based on context. however, i would say that in most situations, people receive 2 chances. but that’s it. one mistake max. that way most horrible situations do not happen more than twice
