Old school: Madonna. She is batshit crazy nowadays but she was the queen of the 80’s and her music still slaps to this day
In-between: Pink. She brought angst and anger to pop, voicing a lot of darker themes that many pop artists of the time were to afraid to talk about. Dysfunctional families, addiction, self-hatred. That really resonated with me as a girl.
New school: Taylor Swift. I love everything about her, whether it be music or not. Her writing style, her voice, her tonal shift with every album. She just doesn’t miss with me. Except for Bad Blood. That was awful.
Old school: Tina Turner (I consider her more of a rockstar than pop star, but still)
New school: Beyoncé (untouchable tbh)
Old school: Blondie. I also love 80’s Japanese city pop which I discovered through Mariya Takeuchi.
New school: FKA twigs. Love her artistry. She pours a lot of herself into her work and stays true to herself instead of changing to break into more mainstream pop (which I believe she could easily do if she wanted)
Old school: Michael Jackson
New school: Billie Eilish
