Situation is complicated so looking for insight.

I (27F) went out for coffee with a professor I met in grad school (35). I will never have him as a professor again, and I am almost done with the program. I’ve had a crush on him for over a year and this is the first time we met in person. He has never been a formal professor—always felt like an equal. (EDIT: he is single btw).

He told me to put my drink on his tab and we talked and laughed for almost 2 hours. There wasn’t any touching but since we had the former professor thing I didn’t expect it. We had a deep connection (which I already knew from our 2 hour zoom calls) and a lot of weird things in common.

Anyway, when we got the check he asked if I wanted to hang out next week and that he had fun. Then when I got home, he texted me thanking me for hanging out and said he’d love to get together sometime and gave me 3 dates he’s free, and he said he’d look for stray raccoons to send me a video of on his way home (bc I rambled about my raccoon obsession).

We haven’t spoken since that convo 2 days ago, but I’m just wondering if this sounds like a date or a friendly former professor get together?

  1. Do yourself a favor and find out if he is taken first… don’t want to inadvertently be a homewrecker… but to me that sounds like he is interested… trying to set up another “meet up”… talking you he enjoyed hanging out… paying for your drink… all signs that he is interested…

  2. It sounds very nice and norma adult dating 🙂 its great to look forward to the date, and not send texts daily. I find this absolutely perfect and I think you may have a nice time when you have a second hang!
