Edit: Can’t be the US president. Don’t think anyone will pay a very high hourly rate for me, so prostitution is out if the question as well. So Garbage Disposal it is!!

  1. I don’t know where you live but in the US working for FedEx, or USPS as a driver pays really well. I know someone who makes $40 an hour working for FedEx (The brown suit, whatever company that is) and I know someone who makes $65 working for US PS.

All they do is delivered general mail. Not some type of specialty extra fragile mail or bulk email. Just the standard that everyone else does.

  2. it depends on your idea of “high paying”. i mean obvi you aren’t talking like a doctor, lawyer, or dentist, but do you mean $25/hour or more like $50-75 per hour?

i know some guys who make extremely good $$ doing IT, security, etc….however, all of them have been “computer guys” since middle school. not one of them has a college degree, though.

they also work *loooooooong* hours, including being on-call, and if some shit goes down in the evening, over the weekend, or on freakin christmas eve….they’re expected to be there for as long as it takes.

some years ago, a friend of mine literally got called home from his vacation in mexico to fix a major problem, but that might not be the case anymore since so many jobs are fully remote.

any gov’t job will pay very well, and you basically can’t get fired unless you fuck up really badly.

have you considered the post office? they pretty much hire everyone, if you just sit tight and wait awhile. be aware, a good friend of mine’s mom spent 35 years at the post office and retired, and she’s the first to tell you that the first 5-10 years can really suck balls until you get some seniority.

how about streets and san, fire or police, the park district, the water department, sewers, stuff like that? it’s not always easy to get those positions unless you know someone, but you can keep trying.

how do you feel about medicine, like nursing, dental assistant/hygienist, PA, court reporting, paralegal, etc?

    pretty good $$ and benefits.

depending on your age, there’s also the service. that’s always an option for intrepid people who want to get ahead in life and don’t mind being away from home.

there’s also the reserves, which is service on a lighter scale.

  3. Join the navy as a clearance diver and after your time leave then get in to saturation diving and make up to $50k a month

  4. If you are a people person and don’t mind a stressful job I have made a great living as a service advisor at a car dealer. Stress level is very high, hours are usually pretty long but with just a high school diploma I have done pretty well.

  5. Well I’m a truck driver. 28, been driving for almost 7 years. If you do it right and own your truck you can easily gross $180k+ a year.

  6. You can learn a trade through someone you know or a course. Once you are a master of it, you can find clients and do it yourself.

  7. no job is going to magically pay you six figures with no experience coming out of highschool. there are some sanitization jobs that pay well up front but they are physically demanding and often disgusting.

  8. You can become a prostitute and make a shit ton of money if you are hot. Do you have the qualifications?

  9. Depending on the state of your construction unions, you can get really good pay through those. Used to work under a guy who was clearing about $140k/year with overtime and good benefits.

Problem is, depending on your city, your union situation could be terrible, or non-existent. In NYC, it’s a really desirable job and the shop stewards tended to be assholes about who they’d let in. A lot of “putting the finger on the scale” for their friends’ kids in what was supposed to be a random lottery.

  10. HVAC technician seem to be doing pretty well out of school. If i didn’t have a degree, I would be looking at doing that

My brother in law is a garbage man and makes more then me as a chemist. Which is kind of funny because one of my early job interviews was as a lab pack chemist which is basically a specialized waste disposal garbage man(and pay offer was $18 an hour which would still be well under what he makes)

  11. Like I tell my kids who want to earn alot of money without putting in a grind… do what others don’t want to do and you’ll make bank, even at entry level.

Plumbing is the biggest one. It does require some training but not a decade worth. Go from plumbing to septic specialist and you’ll be able to retire early.

  12. I became a licensed customs broker making 70k with around 1 and a half years worth of experience in customs brokerage as an entry writer in North Carolina. With 5-7+ years of experience and I can easily make 85-90k. Likely would be even higher in more expensive living states. The LCB test isn’t incredibly difficult, but it does require that you pay attention to detail and know how to break down questions. Essentially, you need to be a good test taker.

  13. Call center. I knew a guy who made almost 100k a year seeking vacations on commission. People don’t think about it but when I was 18 I was getting paid more than a lot of guys twice my age. (Wasn’t making 100k myself though😂)

  14. All these answers are right. However, they seem to be the exception rather than the norm. Also, trades are *perfectly fine*. However, look up the salary on BLS before you think everyone makes bank. Also, consultants, e.g., McKinsey and the ilk.

  15. Not sure where you live but doing garbage disposal pays a pretty respectable wage. I have a friend who does it and is making in the 30s an hour. It took him like 6 months to get his license to drive the trucks and companies are so desperate for drivers he gets hired anywhere he applies.

  16. So this is the whole thing with going to college. You learn enough to start looking at those jobs you need experience for.

  17. Anyone who is actually good at fixing things. Can charge upwards of £50 an hour if you can deliver the results.
