Anything that has stood the test of time in your book.

  1. Anything Beck, Pepper – Butthole Surfers, anything Pixies, Blister In the Sun – Violent Femmes for me.

  2. I remember hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit, and thinking “thank god, there’s something interesting on the radio,” and six months later it was like all the hair bands had just suddenly evaporated. So, thanks to the Seattle bands for that.

  3. “Would?” Alice In Chains

“Whirlwind” the Gits (edited, somehow I typed in Whirlpool the first time)

    “Semi-Charmed Life” Third Eye Blind

    “Violet” Hole

    “Precious Things” Tori Amos

    “Hunter” Björk

    “Hey Jealousy” Gin Blossoms

    “No Diggity” Blackstreet

    “Forgot About Dre” Dr. Dre/Eminem

  4. ‘1979’ – The Smashing Pumpkins

    ‘Lightning Crashes’ – +Live+

    ‘Ironic’ – Alanis Morissette

  5. Nirvana (and Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc), Red Hot Chili Peppers (311 still slaps too when you’re in the right mood), Cake (especially “Rock n Roll Lifestyle” and “Frank Sinatra”), OutKast, Dr Dre.

I agree with your picks too, and I also like “Change” by Blind Melon and “Possum Kingdom” by the Toadies, and Third Eye Blind’s entire first album will always be a favorite.

  6. “I Saw the Sign” Ace of Base

    “Waterfalls” TLC

    “No Scrubs” TLC

“Baby One More Time” Britney Spears

“Genie in a Bottle” Christina Aguilera

“All I Want For Christmas is You” Mariah Carey

    “Fantasy” Mariah Carey

“I Will Always Love You” Whitney Houston

“My Heart Will Go On” Celine Dion

  7. No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom was a repeat listen in my preteen bedroom.

Radio-wise, I was always waiting on Nirvana to come over the airwaves.

  8. Gotta Keep ’em Separated, Basket Case, Enter Sandman, Jeremy

I don’t remember the rest right now, but that was the beginning of my first mix tape that I got off the radio.

Oh I think REM was on there too but I forget the song…Monster? Maybe….

  9. What’s interesting is I wasn’t really into Green Day back then. They have definitely grown on me over time, and I actually think they are much better now.

I listened to the Weezer CD almost every day. I always thought of what CDs I could have stuck in my disk changer and be ok with it. Would have definitely been one. Along with rage against the machine, Smashing pumpkins and at the time Pearl Jam

  10. Some deep cuts that take me back… Not necessarily the best, but iconic of the decade…

Sadeness by Enigma (holy crap they overplayed that one)

    Nothingness by Living Colour

    Linger by The Cranberries

    Pets by Porno for Pyros

    Connected by Stereo MCs

Bitter Sweet Symphony by Verve (hey I was into them back when they were THE Verve…A Storm In Heaven is still one of my most-played albums)

Let Me Clear My Throat by DJ Kool I don’t remember from the radio, but if you went to the club it would definitely be on the rotation. I got grinded by two girls, sandwiched front and back, to that song. Thank you, DJ Kool.

Moby was huge there at the end of the 90s.

Damn I could go on forever but these popped into my head first.

  11. Anything that reminds me of a particular girl from back then. Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Little Black Backpack by Stroke 9, Meet Virginia by Train, Vertical Horizon – Grey Sky Morning, 3AM by Matchbox 20, Show me the Meaning of Being Lonely by the Backstreet Boys, Falls Apart by Sugar Ray, I Knew I Loved You by Savage Garden.

  12. My brain is like an old computer from the early 2000’s: the hard drive is filled with music from the 90’s, some of it bootleg so the words aren’t all there, probably has some viruses from limewire, definitely needs some defragmentation, and groans any time it starts up and takes awhile to wake up fully.

  13. One Headlight-Wallflowers
    Machinehead-Bush
    You Oughta Know-Alanis Morissette
    Black Hole Sun-Sound Garden
    Iris-Goo Goo Dolls
    Flag Pole Sitta-Harvey Danger
    Closing Time- Semisonic
