My roommate is a very solicitous person who gives gifts frequently. She’s coming back to our dorm tomorrow after visiting her family this summer, and I want to get her something small because I think she’ll appreciate it. But I really dislike receiving gifts myself, so I have no idea where to start.
What would you get as a housewarming gift? How to I give gifts to people without overthinking it in general?

Idk if this is already going to cause overthinking, but I would go with what you know about what she likes.
If she likes plants, you could get one that looks or feels or smells nice and can sit by the window (succulents are easiest).
If she has a crafty hobby, you could get some material like paper or yarn or whatever she uses a lot.
If she likes music or shopping at a particular store, you could get her a gift card for music or the store she likes.
So, pick the first thing that occurs to you that she would use. Then tie it up in a ribbon with a little “welcome back” sticker/card and place it on her bed or desk.
