What video game left you completely broken, sad, and depressed?

1. Red Dead 2. Broke my heart.

2. Dead by Daylight. I still play it.

5. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. No Russian broke me down completely. After the mission was over, I put the controller down and just sat there, in a daze. I continued playing, hoping for a better outcome, just to be betrayed by General Shepherd.

6. Mass Effect when Shepard dies.

9. Undertale.

10. Mass Effect trilogy.

    What a ride.

11. Dark Souls.

12. Final Fantasy Crisis Core, as well as Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian.

13. Mother 3!! I already knew what was gonna happen and still my heart shattered. Plus it has a great soundtrack

14. Both endings of the Witcher 3 (the main game and Blood and Wine): such an incredible journey, that completely ruined other games for a while.

15. The original Nier on PS3. I can’t get into too much detail without spoiling, but that game is pretty depressing the whole time.

16. Heavy Red. Just so sad and gross in so many ways.

17. The last of us part 2, I know it’s a mixed bag of if people like it or hate it but the ending was (in my opinion) so well done and emotional

18. Cyberpunk 2077. The game gets a lot of flak for bugs but it has an amazing story and is introspective of the player character more than any game I have ever played. With a strong emphasis on friendship, mortality, identity, and morality.

26. World of Warcraft had a lot of moments that damn near killed me, soooo many sad quests.

27. Final fantasy Crisis Core. I never finished 7, I didn’t know who Zack was.

28. Pathologic. It makes me feel useless and broken but I love that game

29. Yes Red Dead Redemption 2. I actually stopped playing after Arthur died. I haven’t played since.

31. Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice 🥲

32. Spirit Farer. One of the characters was so like my dead that when he inevitably left, it hit more close to home than I expected and I was sobbing.

33. Fire Emblem: Three Houses, for multiple reasons.

    Almost every Dragon Quest, with a special nod to 7. The implications that time travel has in 7 in particular still gets me on random occasions. Several of the little vignettes in that game had me in tears.
