HSG= hysterosalpingogram. Imaging using a special dye inserted into your uterus. Descriptions say some cramping and discomfort but who can give us the real scoop?

  1. You’ll want to take Tylenol beforehand. It was fast, only a minute or so, but felt like a minor childbirth contraction (I’ll give it a two out of ten on the childbirth scale ha). There was slight cramping afterward and they will give you a pad because you leak the dye for the rest of the day. There was also a little bit of blood on the table when they were done.

  2. I have had one. If I remember correctly, it was set up like a pelvic exam with a speculum. Except, the dye is inserted through a tube to the fallopian tubes.

I got it done to see how the fallopian tube was functioning. I only had one left at that point.

All I remember is a weird, cool sensation as the dye flowed through my tube. There was some cramping during and a little more later. I took it easy for the rest of the day. There may have been a little bleeding, but I don’t recall.

It was one of the least painful diagnostic procedures I’ve had. Plus I was totally awake, no sedation and was able to view the procedure on the monitor.
