I’m literally going to break up with my boyfriend

I have been in a relationship with someone for a couple of years now and things are not great. I really don’t want to be honest about the relationship and say it isn’t possible for us to be anything though it should be noted I can really tell they are not having a great time as of late. It’s just the hours they put in, and for nothing. It’s tough seeing them give their time and energy to a relationship both of us can tell isn’t going to work. I don’t want to just lead them on and say they should keep after it though like this it’s just bad. They deserve to be happy though it’s like they are so far from getting there.
