This has always happen to me in dating apps. Is that a good thing?

I’m genuinely confused, sometimes they would be talking about how they miss something that they do with their ex and other times what drifts them apart.. I don’t mind if it’s just a small part of the chat, but sometimes it gets draggy to the point of I’m learning about all the sweet things they used to do together 🤔

I feel like this behaviour means that they’re not interested in pursuing me romantically and instead sees me only as a friend, but could I be wrong? And how do I let them know that talking about their ex makes me feel uncomfortable?

  1. Wait what? They’re talking about things that they miss that their ex would do?

These don’t sound like people that are over their ex. Move on quick.

I had a 20 year relationship with my ex wife. That’s a large part of my life. There were many good parts of this despite my having to end it. My girlfriend and I have had discussions about our ex’es: bad signs we missed going in, things we might get triggered by, relevant recent actions of theirs. For the negative things, it’s in the context of what we’ve learned about relationships, and now ideally we can prevent that with us (or alternately to find out sooner than later that the other is likely to be like that so we can move on from incompatibility).

We’re not spending time getting melancholy over someone we are no longer with. That would suck to hear from her, and I’m sure that she’d feel the same way from me.

  2. I’m sorry, OP…but you are putting up with this WHY again?

Gotta say that just within the context of normal socialization I don’t know ANYBODY who wants to sit and listen to someone do the whole “shoulda-coulda-woulda” routine. I CERTAINLY wouldn’t want to be the “sympathetic ear” when the date is on “my time”. If there is THAT much unfinished business your date is talking to the wrong person. You are NOT required to spend your time being somebody’s Wailing Wall….as it were. FWIW.
