Little backstory: I work at a very popular auto parts company where they love promoting within the company. Which is great if you’re looking to move up within the company.
I was originally hired in January as a “key holder” which is their terms for “full time shift manager” and full time employees get time off, health benefits, 401k, the whole nine yards.
I closed every night from Wednesday-Sunday, I had Monday’s and Tuesday’s off. Which isn’t bad, I was happy with it. Night shift was always what I loved and I was more than content.
Fast forward to about June this year, our assistant manager decided they were going to move across the country due to new job opportunities. Which was great, and we were all happy for them!
My manager had decided they were going to promote me to the new assistant manager, which has new responsibilities added onto the job, most of which do not take a lot of effort or time at all so it’s not a huge deal.
But they had decided to drop the “hey, you’re gonna be the new assistant” then the manager left for a week and a half on vacation with no other context, basically letting that marinate in my brain for a week.
You’d think one would be thrilled right? More money, but also more responsibilities.
Now I get to close 2 days, do a mid shift, open 2 days, 2 days off.
Realistically speaking, nothing much has changed outside of the hours, and pay.
Now I hate going into work. I also feel like I’m not enough of an “authority figure” since I’m just a kid in my 20’s. Since nobody takes me seriously, and the one time I actually was pushing for policy to be followed (just asking for a shirt to be tucked in) I was met with a lot of retaliation.
I’m beginning to hate this job, I just want it to go back to the way it was. I don’t even care if I take a pay cut.
How do I ask to go back to my old position?
