I’ve got a girl coming over in a few hours and my room is above my parents room so they can hear the banging/creaking from the bed. Is there any way to lessen the creak of the floorboards?

  1. From the bed or the floor? If from the bed, stuff a couple of pillows behind the headboard or between the mattress and the wall…. if from the floor, no… the subfloor is loose from the joists and only reattaching it (pulling carpet/ tile/ hardwoods) and adding nails/ screws/ liquid nails will stop the floor boards squeking……. good luck… tap it hard!

  2. > Sprinkle baby powder, baking soda or powdered graphite over the squeaky floorboard and work it into the seams. This will lubricate the wood and should keep the floorboards from rubbing together and squeaking.

  3. Without major renovations, best you can do is reduce it. Try putting floor mats and area rugs down.

  4. Get some plywood and so.e screws. Pull up the flooring and cut the plywood to fit the entire floor and screw it down. 1 screw every 3 inches around the borders and every 6 inches in the inside. Replace flooring.
