  5. I’ll start. Tom Hanks, by far the most diverse and talented actor to ever appear on the big screen in my opinion. From Forrest Gump, to Saving Private Ryan, to Cast Away, and Big, he seems to never disappoint. I’ve never witnessed another actor make you feel for them in any situation and convince you that they ARE the character they are portraying even though you have seen their face a million times. Not to mention, how can he go from a someone such as Forrest Gump, to a School Teacher turned WWII Sergeant, and then switch it up to a FedEx high roller going insane on an island all alone. That is the definition of talent.

    Close runner up is Leonardo DiCaprio, another one with the same skill as Hanks. Django, The Revenant, Titanic, etc. another diverse and talented individual.

    /jk. He tends to always play himself though. The GOAT, I dont know- there are many good actors. Ive been impressed by the range Ed Norton has.

    I think lesser known Iwan Rheon (Ramsey Bolton Game if Thrones) has always been totally convincing in his roles but probably doesn’t have the resume yet.

  8. Gary Oldman. He is a different human being in every movie he’s in. For that reason he is far less recognizable than other actors. But he is absolutely the best there is. Sam Rockwell is pretty good. But not nearly on the same level as Oldman.

  9. Got to give a shout out to De Nero as nobody else has, and maybe Samuel L Jackson as another one.

  12. The actor Thespis is (apocryphally) the first ever actor in the western world. Supposedly he even invented the *concept* of acting: to play someone other than yourself at a stage.

    Some say he invented tragedies; he won the first documented acting contest; and seems to be the first actor who could make a living touring from city to city.

    The claim that he is the first actor is probably untrue, but even so he lived twenty five centuries ago and we remember his name – to the point that “thespian” is a synonym for “actor” in English.

    Surely that makes him the greatest actor of all time?

  13. This is a tough one for sure. Ray Liotta was one of my favorites for sure and I’m gutted about his passing. He was highly rated yet underrated when compared to DeNiro, Pacino, etc.

    Pacino is a fucking artist man and so is Samuel L. Jackson but I’m going to go with Robert DeNiro as he’s done excellent work beyond gangster movies (though that’s why I liked in the first place).

    I think the cast of The Sopranos deserve their own wing also. The cast were so good you could convince me that we were watching real mobsters who didn’t know they were being watched.

  14. Sivaji Ganesan , an Indian actor .. even Marlon Brando has praised him (not sure) but still he’s the greatest followed by Marlon Brando , Robert De Niro , Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson…. Sivaji is great because he’s born for acting and every performance of his is perfect

  16. Personally, I think one.of the most impactful is Robin Williams.

    But in terms of actual acting ability? Gary Oldman without a doubt. His range of characters is incredibly diverse, but he always sells it flawlessly. To the point that it’s become so normalized for him that he basically flies under the radar despite being such an outstanding talent.

  17. Toshiro Mifune, hands down.

    Kurosawa said that when he worked with Mifune, “The ordinary Japanese actor might need ten feet of film to get across an impression; Mifune needed only three feet.” The man’s sheer intensity and charisma are incredible.
