I have trouble approaching people who are my age.

I moved to a new place one year ago. Over the past year, I’ve made two good friends; both of them went to college. I am currently friendless. I didn’t make much of an effort at building new friendships because I had been studying for a test. The test wrapped up 2 months ago, finished school and I have no one to hang out with.

I make the effort to go outside in hope of meeting someone, but as soon as I see someone my age, I turn the other way. I have no problem talking to adults and younger kids. I wish I could have a meaningful friendship in my neighbourhood before going off to college but it’s just so difficult. Today, there was a girl at the basketball court (with airpods so I guess she didn’t want to be disturbed), another group of girls (who my brother told me not talk to talk to) and another group of guys (I went another way as soon as they caught my eye).

I don’t know what it is. I want to talk to them but I have no clue what to say, so I just run away. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
