We are more alike than different and that annoys both of us.
This is too broad a question. Do you want to hear about how we are both homo sapiens that breathe oxygen? Or about how many of us are literally the same people separated by only 5 generations?
Off the top of my head
– Post colonial
– English speaking
– Bicameral legislature
– Capitalist economic structure
– Majority Christian, but moving towards atheism
– Have fought for the same sides in the world’s wars for the past 150 years or so
We rip each other for our food but let’s just admit it, we all love that battered fried carb-heavy post-hangover goodness.
We all spell it as *glamour*
——
(Maybe Americans keep the U because it’s glamorous?.. and Brits drop the U in glamorous because I don’t know why.. and I’m not even sure if they spell glamorize with an S or a Z)
It depends on the region in both countries. We are certainly more similar to them than most non- Anglosphere countries. Our Bill of Rights drew inspiration from English Common Law. We both have regions that have indirect and direct communication styles. The rest are either similarities we don’t even think about or differences in how each nation evolved over time. It’s difficult for me to pick out individual similarities because my area was primarily settled by people from the British Isles.
Using miles per hour
Americans and British people talk about their differences a lot *because* they’re so similar. The small differences really stand out.
well the shared language is a big one
We’re both generally hated by the rest of the world.
I spent 5 days there a month ago.
-Language
-Food is mostly familiar but weirdly different to feel not quite right
-transprotation reminds me of a big city. Shit ton of cars and shit ton of public transit.
-clothing/dress
-conversation. Some are quiet assholes. Others will talk your ears off and share a good story.
It would be funny to see you post this on r/askUK .
Neither of us have won a world cup in 50+ years, and both of us will be playing in the same group for this go at it.
British society is more polite and less witty and banterful than a lot of obnoxious online Brits who pretend that their entire lives are an episode of Blackadder care to admit.
It looks like you have lived in both places you give us some similarities OP lol I have no idea beyond the generic stuff that can also be applied to other countries as well.
A lot of our foundations come from Britain. Our system of laws, our language, even our style of government, while not exactly like theirs, was based off of the British Parliament.
They have also been some of our greatest allies in everything from trade to military help.
I know technically we threw all that tea in the harbor and even eventually fought a war over it, but I don’t mind it and drink hot tea frequently.
