I was discussing this with family recently and they claimed to have no idea what I was talking about. When I was a kid, I remember going to Waffle House regularly and, instead of the big Yellow and Black sign they all have now, it had a logo that looked like the sun with a face in it.

Am I making this up?

EDIT: So, it turns out that where I grew up in Indiana, there was a *different* chain called “Waffle House” that [had the logo I’m remembering](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EsmOaWIXYAYpNy3?format=jpg&name=medium). According to the Waffle House Wikipedia page, when the larger Waffle House company moved into Indiana, they were called “Waffle and Steak” due to the name already being in use. At some point this got worked out, the local WHs changed their names to “The Sunrise Cafe”, and the Waffle and Steaks were changed to Waffle Houses. Sunshine Cafe even [worked the old Sun and Moon logo into their new logo](https://scontent-dfw5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/306137954_477041507768106_5211023432836031979_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=09cbfe&_nc_ohc=Zud8Ccci4J0AX-0Ll-P&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-1.xx&oh=00_AT_SHvyg9vfEZBf_mNdPGjqfFo-UPfKSAFHPLzuAxOryLg&oe=633B0572)!

  1. Does anyone remember the fact that “the waffle house is closed” is actually a metric on the official disaster assessment rating scale.

  2. Indiana Waffle House DBA Sunshine Cafe was separate from the national chain. I think there was even a lawsuit when the national chain first came to town. I’m pretty certain all locations are either closed (RIP Bloomington Waffle House) or operating under a different name

When I was a kid, we went to a Sunshine Cafe near 56/Georgetown. There was an IN Waffle House on West Washington Street for the longest time until…2012 or so?

  3. Hoosier here, I always wondered this. Always thought waffle and steak was a cheap knock off we we had a better type of waffle house. I guess I’m a sunrise type of guy.
