So I’ll elaborate: everyone always likes talking to me, some more than others, anyhow they tell me lots and I try to be a good conversationalist but it doesn’t always work out as I intend.

Example: today I’m talking with a guy about antibiotics and he’s saying he wonders if they change your mood and emotions.

I say yes I think they do because when I had my appendix taken out, they put me on antibiotics and I had the most euphoric shift in emotion. I felt really powerful and at ease.

He then just walked away to grab something from his sink and returned to the sitting area, silent.

I was baffled because I thought I was relating to him while also supporting his theory but apparently he didn’t like it somehow.

So I’m wondering: when people start talking to you, what exactly are they wanting from you?

  1. SS: This has been a lifelong issue for me but basically I don’t understand conversations at all and find myself baffled like in the example above

  2. >but apparently he didn’t like it somehow.

How do you know thats whats happening in his head?

  3. A good option would be, after offering your pov, ask “so, what do you think?”. This way you can get actual feedback and also keep the conversation going.

Otherwise you will stay trying to figure out what the other person is thinking but never really know if your assumptions are right or not. Besides the awkward silence, of course… 😅

  4. Lol are you sure you didn’t just put him into super deep thought? Usually when someone reaches a crux in their idea tree, once the idea is validated, the brain automatically starts to explore the multitude of remaining branches of the tree

  5. Okay well, it wasn’t the antibiotics that made you feel floaty after surgery. It was the anesthetic and painkillers.

As for why he wanted to bail, it sounds like he was done with the convo.
