Hi everyone I’ve recently gone through a tragedy with my husband passing away 3 months ago I’m thinking of moving at the end of the year/early next year.
I currently live in a small town just outside Birmingham in a countryside area i feel like I just need to get away from everything and start fresh.

Had a lot of local guys trying their luck recently fully aware of the tragedy and my own family is pretty toxic typical Pakistani family so I’d like to just get away from all the drama and negativity and start somewhere new with the kids aside from London.

Looking for a place that’s very safe and a lack of crime, and a lot sporting opportunities for the kids.

Budget around 400-500k

  1. Parts of Scotland, perhaps the central belt? Under an hour from both Edinburgh and Glasgow and that budget gets you something really nice. You could afford to live in either city as well for that but it’d probably be a flat over a big house and then you’d be travelling for outside space.

  2. York. Leeds. Bristol (although the house prices may be too high). Exeter.

    By the sea, south coast?

Sorry for your loss and I hope it will all work out with a move.

  3. We moved to Northern Ireland 18 months ago. and depending on where you move to it’s safe, the people are friendly, and it’s cheaper than the rest of the UK for house prices.

  4. For that budget, you could get quite a decent sized property in Wales, which isn’t too far away. Also, Cardiff is good for sports clubs.

  5. A safe place with little to no crime and lots of sporting facilities and activities. Sadly I don’t think those two go together anymore, in the UK.

You maybe searching for a square circle.

You want to get away from everything and start afresh. It’s not possible to get away from everything. But it’s possible to make a fresh start in any place.

    Ask your kids for input.
Ask your support network for advice.
Ask other people you trust and respect.

    Good luck.

  6. Yorkshire could work well, the various commuter towns North of Leeds / Bradford are all safe and friendly and yorkshire is well known for its rugby, cricket and football among other sports.

  7. I would look into Yorkshire, especially with children. North Leeds, Harrogate and York would probably fit exactly what you’re looking for.
