What is the better combat sport boxing or jiu-Jitsu?

  1. From experience I can tell that it doesn’t matter on the type of martial arts you perform, it depends on the fighter.

  2. It depends on whether the jiu-jitsu fighter can take the boxer down before the boxer knocks them out.

  3. There is no better comradery than a Jiu-jitsu academy. I’ve never trained boxing, but did train kickboxing, the dynamics, friendships are completely different. When rolling in Jiu-jitsu, even though you know it will make you lose, you help you opponent by telling him that you can get out of a position and what to do to stop it, same thing doesn’t happen in kickboxing.

  4. As a sport Boxing is much more entertaining than Jiu-Jitsu.

If you are looking to train or compete then BJJ is much better in the long run for your overall health. This is especially true as you get older.

If you are looking for self-defense I’d recommend a gun and BJJ.

  5. Personally, I prefer boxing. Jiu jitsu is better for incapacitating someone without causing them lasting harm, but honestly, the fact that boxing is so intensive actually prepares you far better for more circumstances.

Basically, the goal of jiu jitsu is to do more with less effort, by using leverage and technique to your advantage. But boxing is just raw physical improvement. There are only so many ways you can finesse a punch. And learning to avoid attacks effectively and honing your reflexes to that level will serve you better in more situations. Besides, all the fancy throws and holds in the world won’t save you if someone knocks your block off on the first try.

  6. If you’re looking for the most effective martial art between the two, jiujitsu. I’ve done both extensively. If you need convincing just watch the first few ufcs. For the gym family experience it varies from gym to gym but you’ll get a great experience with either.

  7. Assuming you’re not actually talking about defending your life, I can say I used to box regularly and the advantage is you get super ripped shoulders and leaner build in general. Don’t have to worry about cauliflower ear or floor burns. As long as you wear head gear and your partner is not an asshole, sparring is pretty safe and fun. Met a lot of really good people. Basically, purely from a fitness and fun perspective I greatly enjoyed boxing. Quit simply bc I moved and lost my community and there wasn’t a convenient place to go. One thing to note though is the vibe of gyms ranges widely so you have to find what you’re looking for. Some are more serious and have the sweat and grungy vibe and others are more trendy and like a spin or Zumba vibe so make sure you find the one that fits you.

  8. Japanese Jiu-jitsu, because then you learn everything that BJJ has to offer, but also learn punches, kicks, elbow, knees, throws, anything you can think of
