Every time I want to go to a social event or approach someone new to talk to them, my head fills with excuses for why it is a “terrible” idea. When I ignore these excuses it usually goes well but when I listen to them and decide not to do it, I feel really bad regret. Does anyone have any advice for how to combat the excuses?

  1. Rather than block the thoughts, disconnect yourself from your thoughts. Whenever you have these thoughts take a minute and think about it and imagine the excuses as a separate entity from yourself. Think of them as hints in a game. You can read them but you don’t need them. These “hints” are not you and you not controlled by these hints. Best of luck
