  1. I’ve only had a truck as a daily driver a couple of times. I’ve owned a lot of trucks that only did truck stuff.

I had a Silverado that I think of the first 100k miles I owned it at least 85k of them it was towing something.

  2. Towing my boat, going off road while hunting (bed is also good for carrying a deer), rural living so I use 4 wheel drive a shit ton during the winter, great for carrying home/garden supplies.

  3. Depends on the season. Not as much in the winter, but lots in the other three seasons – hauling bikes, kayaks and firewood, towing travel trailers, landscaping supplies, helping friends and family move, driving on rough forest roads, etc.

  4. I had one in college. I made some decent college beer money in the summers moving friends in and out of their housing.

Nowadays, it’s just one of those things that’s nice to have in the event you need it. They’re a lot more versatile than they used to be. And I find the new crew cabs more comfortable for adults than any of the CUV’s or SUV’s.

  5. I live in just under 8 acres and have pretty much the smallest tuck you can buy: a standard cab, 2-person Tacoma with the 2.7L 2TRFE 4-cylinder engine. We are remodeling our home (we bought a fixer upper) and my wife runs a wood working business.

WE would not be able to function without it. We have a Prius for putting around and a Minivan for hauling kids, but we absolutely need a small truck. Just this week, I:

    * Towed home a hydraulic wood splitter for processing tress I cut down

    * Brought a load of of OSB and drywall for finishing downstairs

    * Brought a door home to hang in our laundry room

    * Brought home a new water heater and tow-behind lawnmower trailer thing

    * Last week I put in a new water heater, so I need to take the old one and a bunch of roofing panel trimmings to the recycling center this next week

    * Took a load of wood to my buddy who runs a wood boiled and needed some.

So yeah, I consider myself a guy who uses the heck out of my truck

  6. My driveway is nearly a half mile long I gotta take the trash down to the road then bring the empty cans back up, so twice on Monday. Past that not a lot.

  7. It varies greatly. Sometimes, I’ll use it for truck stuff every day. Sometimes, I won’t use it for months. I definitely use it more in winter. I also used to use it more before I quit my last job where I would use my truck when a company truck was inconvenient (I would get comped for milage). At the moment, I’ve gone back to school to get a Master’s, so I probably won’t be using it professionally for the foreseeable future.

  8. Lol I love how often truck questions come up like “yea but how often do you *really* need a truck?”

OP, do you ask guys with Supra’s how often they use it for race car stuff? Do you ask guys with STI’s how often they use it for rally stuff?

Why do trucks always get singled out in this nonsense? Like if you don’t use your truck to haul things 6 days a week it’s completely unacceptable to own, but a guy that uses his Corvette to drive to work is a-ok?

  9. I saw “truck owners” and immediately thought of long haul, OTR, and cross country drivers.

But, since the OP seems to be talking about personal pick up style trucks or recreational vehicles, I’ll adjust my answer.

Personal pickups are used for a variety of means. Many rural owners use them to upkeep their property. Hauling fencing, livestock, feed, etc.

They can also be used for hauling other recreational equipment; boats, jet skis, four wheelers, dirt bikes.

Or, maybe even animal based recreation, hunting, fishing, rodeo, trail riding,

  10. My pops owns once, he doesn’t tow much and its his daily driver. Sometimes we put stuff in the bed and hitch up the trailer.

  11. I do a lot of woodworking so I’m always picking up lumber with my truck. Recently I had to sell my truck so I put a trailer hitch on my Toyota Matrix and I got a small trailer so I can still bring home full sheets of plywood.

  12. Occasionally. We plan on getting a travel trailer eventually but we are trying to save up for a house first.

  13. Not everyday but I have a pontoon I need to haul occasionally. I also move stuff from one property to another that I own. My other property basically is the definition of off road. That being said. I have a utility trailer now so I don’t really NEED a truck anymore. I do however still need 4wd for the above mentioned reasons as well as driving to work 15 miles, down back roads, with 8 inches of snow on them at 5 in the morning.

  14. I have a company work truck I drive daily for work. It’s full of tools and material I use for work which would not fit very well in another type of vehicle. I need a lot of the stuff in it pretty much every day.

I absolutely HATE driving a truck. It’s big, has annoying blind spots, and is a pain to park in small garages or lots (I work in DC a lot). It also gets TERRIBLE gas mileage. I would vastly prefer to drive my personal car, but I need the truck for work.

  15. I don’t drive a truck, but my dad does and he’s a general contractor. So, he uses it a lot for work.

I have a cush office job, so I don’t have one. That’s just a flex

  16. Non-truck owners. How do you get anything done around the house without a way to move things around?

  17. I almost never tow, however I use the bed fairly often. I could get away with a smaller truck but given used car prices at the moment I think i’ll be fine with what I have.

  18. Fairly frequently. I haul trash to the dump a couple of times a week, haul construction materials, haul “stuff” that doesn’t fit into either category, etc. On top of that, the 4WD and higher ground clearance are really handy around here, particularly during the winter.

  19. When I owned a pick up, all the time. Hauling shot for home.

But mostly camping, fishing and hunting. Which I did all the time.

  20. We have a Dodge crew cab.

It tows the boat, RV, or off road vehicles when we want to play.

It hauls lumber, landscaping or whatever when we are fixing up, remodeling or repairing around the house.

It’s comfortable on long trips, which we take often.

Daily driver for me is a car, daily driver for him goes between a car and the truck depending simply on what he feels like driving that day, fun in the sun on a beautiful day is the jeep.
