As the title says, I have no problem initiating a conversation and carrying the conversation, but I can’t respond to people for shit unless it’s a conversation I’ve had a dozen times before.

What I mean is, I can talk to them no problem, but I find myself saying “ohh yeah” “that makes sense yeah for sure” and that sort of thing. I’m trying to ditch those phrases and actually talk with one another, but when I force myself not to say those phrases, I just end up in an awkward staring contest.

  1. You have to find a formula. It’s mainly about avoiding things that make a conversation go to a dead end. Yeah for sure, is fine but follow it up with either a comment or a question to carry on the conversation.

Never let a silence carry on for more than 4 seconds. If it passes 4 seconds just ask another question.

It’s hard at first, but you will get better at it.
