Curious to know what simple – sometimes homemade – snacks kids usually like to eat. In the US, I know a favorite is milk and cookies.

  1. For most children in Sicily, they finish school and then go home and have lunch! School usually finishes at 1 or 2pm.

    Typical lunch is of course,pasta.

Many children might have a snack later on, say 4-5pm.That might be a piece of fruit,a yogurt or a ‘merendina’ which is usually a small cake.

Some children might have a small sandwich with ham or salami,or a brioche roll.

Sweet is more popular than savoury I’d say, based on the kids I know anyway!

  2. In Sweden, fruits, sandwiches and thick fruit soup called kräm is common as after school snacks.

  3. English here.

I have fond memories of hanging out at my mates house after school year seven to nine, playing Red Alert 2 etc. His mum would always look after us and bring up a tray of buttered toast, apple slices, a glass of orange juice each, some chocolate, what have you. Traditional? No idea. But we loved it.
