I’ve lived here a few years and I love the Halloween decorations so much! (There’s a 10 ft headless horseman on next doors front lawn!) Does it get weird if people stop and take photos or videos though? Or do you not mind it, since it’s kind of for display.

I’m talking about normal people doing it from sidewalks or cars, not people coming onto your property.

  1. Probably not.

I’m unaware of anyone taking pictures of my house but I don’t think it would bother me, at least if it was clearly for this purpose. We’d be having a very different conversation if I walked outside my house in the middle of the night at a random time of the year and saw a guy taking pictures.

Even then I’d probably assume it’s for insurance purposes but I’d probably call the cops too.

  2. No, you’d be fine as your not coming into the property. People put up these holiday displays to be looked at, just make sure your not impeding traffic while taking your pictures.

  3. No. Just don’t make it weird. Make it really obvious that you’re shooting the display/decorations.

  4. I wouldn’t mind. People who spend a lot of time, money, and effort on decorating really shouldn’t mind someone else enjoying it. Also, as long as you are on public property you can legally photograph or record whatever you can see.

  5. 15+ years ago I might have taken issue with someone standing in front of my house with a digital camera or DSLR taking pictures. But nowadays it’s such a casual thing, someone could just be texting their wife “check this out” or something, no big deal.

  6. Seems pretty ridiculous to decorate the exterior of one’s home in a manner in which to draw attention and then be upset that passing folks take pictures.

  7. As long as you’re being respectful and not weird about it I’m sure most people wouldn’t care.

  8. Thank you for the replies, I can now enjoy the decorations and feel less like a criminal, when I photograph the inflatable witch down the road, when I walk my dog later lol.

  9. I mean, that would certainly be weird if you set up a lot of decorations only to get mad at people enjoying them.

I would say that as long as you’re not being a nuisance, e.g. coming onto the property, blocking the driveway/sidewalk, or hanging around all day then there’s no harm done and it would be totally irrational for anyone to get mad.

  10. No problem. It’s expected since there’s special decoration. Have fun, but do not touch, fix anything you mess up.

  11. I wouldn’t mind (not that I go all out so…) but my caveat would be please cover or blur any identifying info if you want to share it – mainly if you accidentally capture the vehicle with license plate or street name. Just for the safety of the homeowners.

  12. No. What I do mind are real estate people taking pictures of my house and sending me an advertisement with the photo offering to buy it.

  13. Not typically

If you took the time to do significant decorating, most people taking pictures likely think you did a good job
