How do you know when it’s appropriate to either fight or flight when a man gives you the first punch?

  1. Flight is always a viable option. Fight is only viable when a) flight isn’t a viable option or b) you know you can take him or c) negotiating has failed

  2. If you get attacked, defend yourself. I’ll say that I’m actually trained how to fight but I’m doing my best to avoid being in that situation in the first place.

  3. If we’re swinging I’ll match and exceed his aggression. Often times even if he’s the stronger fighter they can’t match the energy and quickly get into defense/retreat mode.

  4. Don’t listen to all the couch judo masters on here. It’s a simple equation. Am I willing to get my ass kicked? If yes then fight, if no then run away.

  5. Any fight you didn’t plan is an ambush. Your first choice should always be flight unless you can’t.

  6. Unless you know this guy is considerably richer or more well-known (and well-liked) in the community than you, just beat his ass if he swings first. Only reason you shouldn’t defend yourself is if the guy has a good chance of getting a judge/jury to give you a bogus sentence in court.

  7. What do you mean ‘gives you first punch’? Where I am that means he’ll let you throw the first punch without blocking, usually to show how little he fears your fighting ability.

Never throw the first punch; if you do, then everything that comes after is your fault.

  8. If theyve given you the first punch, you’re in a fight. The decision has been made for you. Unless you’re saying theyre allowing you to hit them for free, in which case they might be looking for legal justification and i would say itd be in your best interest to either not take them up on their offer and vacate or do take them up on their offer, aim for the KO button and then vacate.

  9. I’m not a violent guy and as a rule I don’t condone violence. I’ve never started a fight but there’s a few unfortunate guys that learned I could end them really fast. But when he throws the first punch, the fight has started, and it’s your job to make it as short as possible, using any physical means possible. Kick the bastard in the balls until he loses the desire to fight, then walk away. If the guy’s all mouth and no action, ignore him and leave.
