I often am handing people things and will always look at our hands so I don’t drop what I’m holding. However I’m not sure the proper way – does looking at the hands instead of the person make them uncomfortable? I’ve noticed often times people are looking at me while I’m looking at their hands and then I feel anxious and avoid their eyes.

Both. I make eye contact and then stare at the thing once I have their attention
just like what the other guy said, you can do both. I dont think many people would get uncomfortable if you look at their hands while doing it but that could just be me.
Depends on what I’m giving. I usually look at the object to know I’m manipulating it right and handling it correctly and then i glance at the person to see their reaction. If im just handing a stapler or tool to someone i don’t really look at their face, i look to see if their hand is ready to grab it. If I’m handing a gift to someone i do the same but i also look glance at them and smile so they can know I’m happy to give it to them.
Oh dang, I wish we could do a practice. I have no idea where anyone looks lol
Depends on how big/sharp/slippery/fragile/dangerous the object is. If it’s perfectly safe I look at the person. If I’m worried about harming someone or dropping the object, I’ll look at the object.
Look, them in the eyes, take your box, then open the fucker to make sure it’s not a brick
You need to keep your mind busier
If they’re coming from far away, I look at them till they reach nearby and then at the object when they’ve reached the point close enough to handing it,
When they’re already nearby, I look at the object all the time
