With the news that apparently they’re returning to the UK from next year.

I wondered if anything had taken over your local store? Ours has been empty ever since they went into administration.

  1. “Luxury” apartments – Huntley Wharf? Someone sprayed-paint the word Ian onto the front of it at one point, made me chuckle.

  2. Two nearest me are both just empty shells, although one is half destroyed due to fire and I think they’re tearing it down.

  3. Ours was a discount furniture warehouse. Going to be turned into a big tk maxx now. It had only opened about a year before they closed down, before that it was across the retail park. That one became a really fancy Debenhams, which has obviously gone. It’s now a really good m&s

  4. Signs that say Toys R Us, now open!”

The Reading branch was newly built and opened a week before they went bust. It’s still empty.

  5. We have one of those massive smyths toy shops near the old toys r us shop and recently discovering it wasn’t full of all the toys I wanted in the 1980s was a huge disappointment.

  6. The MetroCentre one in the NE is empty too.

Part of me wonders what they’re like inside – did the staff just down tools and leave – is it a dusty time capsule, or did they auction off whatever they could

  7. Ours is a mass Covid vaccination site nowadays, or ‘Jabs-R-Us’ as it’s affectionately known locally

  8. It was a Covid Vaccine Centre for 16 months, but it closed in July. I presume its just empty now.

  9. Empty for a few years, had a fire test gutted the front of the unit, rebuilt and is now a iceland food warehouse and a bnm

  10. Weve a massive, local charity shop that sells furniture as well as the usual books/clothes/toys

  11. Rochester Toys R Us is now a Home Bargains, with an Aldi and KFC drive through in the carpark.

  12. Still empty. There was talk of the M & S in town moving into it so the council bought it to stop them.

  13. The one in Birmingham City centre is now a big HMV and the one in Oldbury, Sandwell is now a B&M.

  14. Iceland and a Home Bargains, it had a mysterious and convenient fire just before it was refurbished.

  15. The one in York is a Home Bargains. It’s weird because I swear it felt much bigger as a Toys R Us.
