I see people video calling on their phones in public places like the Subway and on buses. It seems inconvenient in such crowded places and I can easily see the faces of the people they are calling which isn’t great for privacy. Like can’t the call wait until they get home?

Outside of work, class, or conferences, I only used Zoom video chat a few times with friends during the pandemic but now it essentially stopped.

What kind of relationship do you have with someone before you video call them? or are you fine with video calling anyone?

  1. To me video calls seem completely unnecessary. For business calls I’ll use it when there is something I need a shared screen. In any other case, I’d prefer texting or a quick phone call.

Of course that only works for me because I have a rather local social network, I can see the utility when you have some long distance stuff going on but to me that’s not on the menu.

  2. The only people I video call are family and even that is if I expect a decently long conversation.
