Women who started running and had an hourglass figure to start, how did running change your body?

  1. Alrighty, alarms are tripping for unrealistic body image ideas. Not sure where you are headed with this question but:

It takes a lot of work to change one’s body. I assure you, any changes will be slow and gradual (if they aren’t, you need to ease off and see a professional).

No amount of running/exercising/dieting will change the skeleton underneath. There will be limits to what you can accomplish (I was once skinny as a rail and still had these goddamn hip dips).

Where are you at on your fitness journey? Just starting out? I would highly recommend finding a starter plan like what can be found on r/couchto5k. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel and you don’t need to waste your time with *Fitness Tips from This Gorgeous Model/Olympian/MIT Grad* article or Instagram personalities holding their butt cheeks up with yoga pants and a prayer.

  2. Running seemed to be the only thing to flatten my stomach and make my bust a little smaller – I’m a little busty, so I welcomed the change. I’ve done other cardio and even though I get an intense workout, I feel like I notice more results from a run. Unfortunately, I think I get joint pain now so I tend to do other workouts. I can still flatten my stomach from other exercises but I liked how running was an all-in-one thing for me. I didn’t even run a lot at my peak but I get pain in my shins now.

  3. More cut overall, more muscle definition. I have an ass and a curve to my hips when I dip into underweight territory from running so <15% body fat for me. I aim to maintain at abt 5-6 lbs above the underweight mark w reasonable exercise and intuitive eating. Running just cuts the extra fat I otherwise store in hips/butt/thighs area, with less fat around my chest and slightly smaller chest too.
Remember for the cut to show you have to maintain a calorie deficit of between 500 and 1000/day ideally, while keeping protein intake up so as not to lose a lot of muscle mass. This is just if you are looking to lower BFP and maintain that muscle from lifting!

  4. It really didn’t. I went from sedentary to running a half marathon. I gained stamina and muscle tone, but I didn’t lose any weight and my clothes fit about the same. Still, it made me feel healthier physically and mentally.

  5. dont know if im completely an “hourglass” as in marilyn monroe but i am curvy in a similar feminine shape lol. i found most of my fat loss was in my legs, specifically thighs. also waist! i find my abs hurt almost as much as my legs the day after a run lol. as for muscle growth – i noticed it the most in my calves.

  6. My feet are stronger, my calves are a bit bigger and I have murdered about 50 pairs of shoes.
