I’ve noticed a few states where the time zone change cuts right down the middle, how does that work? Are counties entirely within each time zone? If you’re right in the middle, how do you choose which one to follow?

I live in Dearborn county Indiana which used to be on daylight savings time (DST, we called it fast time) to be on the the same time as Cincinnati while most of the rest of Indiana was still on regular eastern standard time (didn’t switch over to DST). You were always asking people if the starting time was “fast time” or “slow time” . This oddity was incorporated into episodes of The West Wing – season 4 episodes 1 & 2 – 20 Hours in America. They miss a plane because of time zone switches
