2. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like if I’d married my college boyfriend and had kids. Reality is we’d probably be divorced now. Our kids would be teenagers and would probably resent us. I’d be tied forever to his toxic family. Maybe whatever “joy” you’re supposed to find in children would make up for it, I don’t know. There’s just no set of circumstances that has happened in my life to date that would have allowed me to have kids and a good, fulfilling marriage, the men I dated all showed themselves after time to not be up to the task, so I’m glad I never tried to force it.

   And honestly, even imagining some fantasy perfect guy that doesn’t exist, I don’t even know that the things demanded of modern moms are things I’d want to do.
