I loved everything about my job but it is no secret we got paid just over minimum wage. This isn’t anything against my old employer, just an industry standard.

It’s very hard to explain why I left to old coworkers, customers, and my friends without telling the truth because I hate the new job I took. My new job is in a totally unrelated field to my background. It is a notoriously ruthless, cut-throat field. I took it solely for financial reasons.

Is it appropriate for me to say, “it was purely a financial decision. I miss everything about my old job” without disparaging my old company?

  1. I think its appropriate, I openly tell my coworkers that I would leave If I lived on my own. I make a few dollars above minimum wage and work 40 hrs a week. Its still not enough and its not our fault, like you said its the industry and the way the world is now. companies cant expect us to live off of unlivable pay, everyone should understand that.

edit: I work in a small store and over the past few years have become really close to my coworkers thats why I have no problem saying that. It can be different for everyone
