I have a really good friend who I’ve had since primary school. We’re now in year 11. I want to have a friend group and make memories in my last year and everything but he’s very reserved and doesn’t care about having more friends or anything like that. He refuses to socialise and is very hostile towards other people. Most of the time he just wants to stay in the library.

As I said I would love to have a friend group even just for this last year but I don’t know what to do. He’s been my mate for years and I’d hate to waste it all now. But I do feel like he’s holding me back. Maybe it’s too late to have a friend group in year 11. I would appreciate any advice.

(Year 11 is the last year of secondary school in UK)

  1. Hi! I think that if you want to have a friend group you should just go and befriend other people, it’s never too late to make friends!

Also that doesn’t mean you should leave this friend behind and alone, but at the same time you shouldn’t spend all your time only with him because you are afraid of losing this friendship and he doesn’t like people, you shouldn’t “face the consequences” of this by not making friends.

I’d say find a sort of balance: spend time with him but also with other people to expand your friend group 🙂
