If you had a month to travel the North US from Vancouver, where would you go and what would you do?

  1. What would **I** do or what would I suggest for you to do?

What do you like to do? Mountain climbing, drag shows, antique shops?

How will you be traveling? Car? Or flying then relying on transit?

What’s your budget? Hotels and gas are pricey right now. How much driving do you really want to do? “North US” could be Washington/Oregon/Idaho or it could be Maine.

Tell us more about yourself and what you like to do and you’ll get better advice. There’s also /r/roadtrip if you’re driving.

  2. Seattle—>Portland—>Boise—->Theodore Roosevelt NP (North Dakota)—->Bismarck—> Minneapolis—-> Chicago—-> Boston. If you count all of those as the “North” US.

  3. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so my advice to someone traveling here would be things like visiting Mt. Rainier, Cannon Beach, and Seattle and Portland obviously. The area had a lot of cool natural hot springs too which are very relaxing and pretty. Multnomah Falls looks like something straight out of a fairytale. I heard part of it got burned down in a fire a few years ago though. But yeah, the cascades are downright beautiful. If you go in late summer make you to pick some wild huckleberries and salmonberries!

  4. Glacier NP is amazing, but a proper visit requires some planning and/ or flexibility.

  5. **Week 1:** I like a mix of cities and nature on my travels, so I would probably start by heading east to Montana and seeing some of the parks there before continuing south into Wyoming for their parks, namely Yellowstone. After that I might head east to South Dakota to see the Badlands and Black Hills.

**Week 2:** After that you can head southwest towards Colorado. The large cities along I-25 are all fine to base out of. Denver has the most going on, but Colorado’s biggest sell, from my experience, is the nature higher up in the mountains. From there, I’d head south to the Santa Fe, NM area. Santa Fe is a really cool city, and there are great hikes all around the city as well.

**Week 3:** From there you’ve got a bit of a drive to the Grand Canyon. I haven’t visited Albuquerque or Flagstaff recently, but they might have some interesting stuff to stop and see for a day on the way. From there, head west to Vegas if that’s your thing at all. From there, I’d head down to Los Angeles and/or San Diego and start working my way north.

**Week 4:** You could take I-5 north if you’re short on time or follow the coast for a slower but prettier drive stopping in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle on your way back to BC.

This itinerary assumes 1-2 days at each stop not including days driving between places. You could remove a couple stops to make it a more laid-back trip. South Dakota is probably the most out-of-the-way, but Badlands is my favorite park in the country, so I had to include it.

  6. I would go to the National Parks , Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Arches, then to Monument Valley which is not a National park because it is owned by the Navajo Nation.
