Title, have been going to social events in college and sometimes run into people that I know of their names, follow on IG, etc. because of people I know who talk about them, but they don’t know who I am/follow me. In these convos I feel kinda unsure what to do, as normally the social move is just to introduce like normal and shoot a follow, but I feel rather awkward/fake asking someone their name if I already know it

  1. It’s perfectly acceptable to ask them what their name is to make the conversation smoother. There’s no real reason to point out that you know who they are unless you plan to bring that up when you talk.

If you *did* want to mention it, instead of asking for their name you could say something like “Oh are you [their name]? I think I know you through [so and so].”
