Seriously, it’s in every TV show, every movie from USA. Never saw it once IRL.

  1. Most commercial peanut butter in the US is peanuts that are roasted, salted, emulsified with peanut (or other) oil, and has sugar or another sweetener added. “Smooth” is just that, very smooth, like a smoother Nutella if you’re familiar with that. “Chunky” is “smooth” with added small chunks of nuts. It is NOT simply ground up raw peanuts, which would be gross.

It’s tasty. A savory flavor with touch of salt and sweet. You’ll find it in most households.

  2. “It’s in every TV show”. Funny, 99% of people posting on here talk about something that’s in every American TV show, and we’re all like, “TV doesn’t reflect reality…”. But, this one is pretty accurate. Unless someone in the household has nut allergies, it’s a staple. We like it so much that we have peanut butter flavored ice cream, cereal, candy, chocolates, etc.

Edit: and beer- don’t know how I forgot peanut butter flavored beer.

  3. Sweet, salty and nutty. It’s a paste of ground peanuts, oil, sweeteners and other ingredients.

  4. It’s a very common food here. That’s all. I’m sure you have very common foods in your country that aren’t commonly eaten in other countries.

  5. I loved the bit in Stranger Things where an American who had been in a Russian prison eats some Skippy peanut butter and nearly cries. Tastes like home.

We have a person with a peanut allergy in the house and we immediately went on a search for a peanut butter substitute after he was diagnosed. It’s a staple at our house.

  6. I grind the organic peanuts from a local grocery and just eat that. I’m never going back to the stuff in the jar ever again.

  7. It’s not line butter, at all.

Creamy peanut butter is somewhat like Nutella, but has a thicker, stickier consistency. A beverage (usually milk) is generally desired when eating quantities of peanut butter, as PB tends to stick to the roof of your mouth or throat when eating too much of it.

  8. Think Nutella but more nutty because there is no chocolate.

Do you ever have Thai food with peanuts, or African peanut soup?

  9. Satisfying, convenient, and simple.

Our typical peanut butter tastes like slightly sweetened ground peanuts, usually with a very smooth texture.

You can have it alone in a sandwich, or on toast, or have it with jam or honey or bananas on a sandwich. You can also eat it together with apples or celery (two faves). It’s also great together with chocolate though you wouldn’t think so.

  10. A paste made with grounded peanuts mixed with oil to give it a spreadable consistency. Sometimes it’s “chunky” with bits of peanuts, or a completely smooth consistency.

I prefer the latter with strawberry preserves or jam. It’s a really satisfying snack with a glass of milk or for me, coffee + milk.

I also use it a lot in smoothies. Peanut butter goes really well with bananas. Either spread on top, or mixed together in the smoothies.
I often make smoothies with peanut butter, banana, frozen berries and milk or almond milk. Sometimes I add protein powder if I’m using almond milk, or even add some spinach (can’t taste it over the berries).

More controversially, I like peanut butter on celery.

There’s lots of different brands of peanut butter. Some are cheap some are really expensive. Some high end supermarkets even have their own machines that can grind peanut butter for you (I don’t care for it).

Almond butter and cashew butter, along with other nut butters are common but peanut butter by far is the most popular.

  11. Someone should send this guy a jar of peanut butter.

The good stuff, made with only dark-roasted peanuts and salt.

  12. I don’t much care for regular american peanutbutter as it tends to be too sweet for me for like a whole sandwhich amount. I find I prefer just the peanuts ground up into the paste.

That being said, most american brands are salty and sweet? Not like..candy sweet but more like a dessert for sure.

As a side note, jiff peanubutter makes excellent bait for mousetraps. Mice loooove peanutbutter with high sugars.
