Headlights by Eminem. I honestly don’t know why, as I have a great relationship with my mom and dad.
Drink Til We’re Gone by Lucero.
That album and specifically that song was a big part of the soundtrack to my early 20s.
Leaving on a Jetplane has always held a special magic for me. Also Up on the Roof.
Jolene by Ray Lamontagne.
It just hits me on so many personal levels. I love it, though. I find it cathartic
Forever together by emblem3. My wife (then girlfriend) told me to listen to it on my 21st birthday, she said she couldn’t formulate the words on how to tell me how she was feeling. Thats the relationship memory
I also think of How to Save A Life by the Fray. Because I was an emotional wreak growing up and was sad
“[Yours to Destroy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zViU7HHfYsg)” by No Use for a Name. It was basically the theme song for a MAJOR transition in my life. Still brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.
‘In a sentimental mood’ – John Coltrane. Rainy day, cup of bourbon, maybe a smoke. Just listen to it
Christ so many, though it’s often nothing to do with the lyrics. Have associated songs for all the most impactful people in my life over the last 20 years, songs for time periods, songs for events, songs for games I was playing while listening. Music is deeply intwined with my relationships and memories.
It’s a little weird sharing a song with someone that I associate with them, but they don’t like it. Had an ex make fun of some music I sent her, before I was like lol this is the playlist I had while I fell in love with you bit awkward
Akira the don [sacrifice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCh7C6NYkn4).
My life has had a lot of voluntary sacrifice to shape me. It gets me thinking about those. Upside: I love who the sacrifices made me into.
“I’m Just A Kid” by Simple Plan
You Say by Lauren Daigle, which was my wedding song.
Run by Snow Patrol, which is my favorite song right now. Just Say Yes is also up there.
“Yesterday” by the beetles. It’s a song that my dad and I both like and it reminds me of us riding in the truck listing to the beetles while working, running errands, ect.
It has to be something that’s not in my regular playlist. If it’s a song I hear once every few weeks, it lacks the same emotional punch.
Recently, I heard Boyz II Men – End of the Road, and it immediately brought memories of my middle school dances. Hadn’t heard that one in ages, and it put me back in 1994!
Anything by David Gray.. he is the soundtrack to an ongoing divorce. But never listened to anything by him once it was done.
Michigan by Josh Rouse. It’s a letter to the character’s parents. The closing gets me every time. “Just want to be happy, love, your son”
