What’s like being a landscaper?

  1. I never did any really nice aesthetic landscaping, but did more basic grounds maintenance/landscaping for several buildings (lawn mowing, hedge trimming, basic cleanup) for a few years. So if that counts, it’s great. I got to work outside alone and didn’t have to be in the same place every day.

  2. I was a green keeper for a year so similar but not identical.

My experience was, if its cold and wet keep busy to keep warm, if its too hot suffer loudly.

Obviously with landscaping a lot is going to depend on the environment, if you’re self employed and what skills you can master.

A good landscaper needs to know their horticulture as to avoid damaging their clients potentially expensive plants and to provide solid advise as to what to plant, when and where.

    Edit: typo

  3. Depends on what level/job you have. Running a weed whip all day is not fun. Riding a zero turn mower all day is relaxing but also repetitive. Laying sod and brick? No thanks. Designing and creating something makes all of the above worth it (Plus you will probably be using heavy equipment)

  4. I actually enjoyed it when I did it. Used my hands, didn’t have to talk to a lot of people, didn’t have to think a lot. Some ways it was kind of relaxing. Only thing was where I did landscaping, it would sometimes reach 40°C during the middle of the summer. Other than that it was cool.
