My father smoked inside and used my clothes as ashtray, it was my fault that the clothes are all over, but hes not allowed to smoke inside and he specifically did it over my clothes. I blamed my sister for giving my father a tiny drink in a positive way to him when I said dont do it, (hes an ex-alcoholic) and would enable him to do entirely stupid stuff. I was right and I get all the blame

  1. I’d get another perspective to verify if I’m not in the wrong or not, as that would be a lot of people collectively telling me something my fault.

  2. The floor also was not made for your clothes to be all over.

Did he go into your room and do this? Or was he in the bathroom or hallway or any other part of the house?

  3. Stop seeking approval from strangers on the internet and clean up your shit around the house.

  4. NTA. It sounds like your father has some serious problems and that you’re the one cleaning up his messes a lot. It doesn’t matter whether he owns the house or not if he’s making his entire family play stupid games to accommodate his compulsive behaviors and refusing to take responsibility for the consequences of his actions.

  5. I’m personally too smart and arrogant/stubborn to be gaslit

No motherfucker is gonna tell me something is my fault when it’s not. I’ll just argue with them. All day long.

But why are your clothes on the floor? Everything else can be not your fault, but your clothes being on the floor is your fault.

Still not a reason to use them as an ashtray, that’s just being a dick

  6. Sorry OP, I’m not buying that you are entirely innocent and that an entire family has conspired against you out of sheer malice. Not making judgments until they give their side too. One sided stories mean absolutely nothing.

  7. They did that to me, I threw them out of my life. I can’t be bothered warning every time again, not wasting time on toxic behavior.

  8. If you had your clothes all over the place and your family said it was your fault that your clothes were all over the place, how are they wrong?

What exactly do you think gaslighting means because im pretty sure it’s not what you think it is.
