What is broken in your house/apartment but you keep using it/ don’t replace it because it’s not THAT broken?

  1. The flippers who I bought this house from deserve to be in prison for the way they did the bathroom, but I still have to poop and shower in there.

Specifically the door. It was a pocket door that they screwed in place to make a doorstop. It’s flush with the inside of the doorknob, so you can’t open it if you’ve been using lotion or have wet hands.

  2. Our refrigerator came with the house. It’s old, the rubber around the handle is coming off, it’s likely not efficient and definitely hideous looking, but… it works. Well, mostly, the ice maker doesn’t work.

I haven’t been able to prioritize thousands of dollars to replace something that still keeps things cold, but man would I love a new one.

  3. Folding travel kettle. We bought it secondhand and it was missing the handle. I 3D printed a handle one at work but we broke a couple of the locating tabs at the bottom of the handle. Still works, just a little wonky.

My truck. Has an oil leak that might be easy to fix, but I’m too busy to worry about it. It’s easier to just add a little oil while I’m fueling up.

My phone, home button spontaneously cracked last year. Installed a non-Touch-ID universal replacement, but it didn’t work, So I sent the part back and just use the on-screen accessibility home button. Hoping to replace the phone next year.

  4. My dryer knob, the shaft is broken so a replacement knob doesnt work, so I use needle nose plier to reach in and set it right everytime

  5. The timer on my toaster oven. You’re supposed to be able to turn the dial to whatever time you want, and it counts down until it dings and shuts off. But no matter how much or little you turn it, it no longer counts down. So I just use the timer on my microwave, and I have to manually turn the toaster oven off when I’m done with it.

  6. My Birkenstocks. My dog destroyed them but I’m too lazy to go to the mall and get new ones.

  7. I’ll just answer with this: Nothing is as quite as permanent as a temporary solution

  8. Our dryer only works at the lowest setting anymore.

Our only laptop is about 10 years old, the battery won’t charge (so limited to plug cord usage), and sounds like a PS4 playing Red Dead 2.

The tub faucet has buildup resulting in the faucet/shower valve to only be about half effective. We bought a new faucet replacement, but couldn’t get the old one off even using a big plumber’s wrench. We’ll need to cut it off…thus we haven’t yet and just have weaker showers.

  9. the downstairs will flood with sewage because the pump is messed up and runs constantly, so i have to keep it unplugged and just plug it in once a day or so to keep things kosher

  10. My shower knob broke and the threading underneath is too damaged to attach another one, so I clamped on some vice grips to it. It’s been 2 years, but it works and I don’t feel like crawling around the spider infested basement to turn off the water so I can replace the shower valve. (I rent and the basement is not in my apartment)
