My older brother was always very classy in the way he protected me. I remember being 16 years old and at a family gathering. We had a rather creepy uncle who was the black sheep of the family, but no one ever gave me any details as to why. I was sitting at a chair by myself wearing shorts. My uncle slides into the chair next to me and starts talking to me about how I was all grown up and he couldn’t believe it. He rested a hand on my thigh.
I didn’t really have the life experience to understand something weird was happening, but I was definitely slightly uncomfortable and didn’t do anything about it. About two seconds later, my brother swooped in to the chair on the opposite side of my uncle, aggressively grabs him by the shoulder and says “HEY Uncle J?!?!?! How’ve you been?!?!?” and then glanced at me over my uncles shoulder and motioned with his eyes for me to run.
Whenever I have shared my break up stories, rants, the frustrating moments of my relationship with my brother, he’s assured me that I could do so much better than that. He’s a very brutally honest person and when I fuck up, he’s upfront to my face. My brother has greatly seen and recognized that his sister has a lot to offer, so it hurts him when I get hurt, especially from men that he knows didn’t deserve to be with me.
