I (29F) have a crush on a friend (39M) of mine who is 10 years older than me, and I think he likes me too but i’m concerned the age difference might raise eyebrows. he doesn’t feel older than me – we like the same things, we’re already friends, neither of us have children and neither of us have been married before. We both have stable jobs and are career focused.

He’s very financially stable and has a confidence/self-assuredness I have never seen in men my age both of which I find attractive.

My last boyfriend was 6 years older than me, and i’ve dated guys who were 8 years older than me so this wouldn’t be that different in theory.

Growing up I knew a lot of people with parents who were 10+ years apart but I currently don’t know anyone personally with that age gap in their relationship. So I’m just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of or should consider before taking the next step here. Any advice, insight, warnings are welcome!

tl;dr 10 year age gap too big? Advice/insight on age gap relationships?

  1. Usually the issue with the age gap is to do with interests, hobbies and perspectives in life.
A 39 year old may not want to do stuff like clubbing while someone younger might want to do that.

If you feel you are compatible and have the same interests then go for it.

  2. I see a lot of it here since I moved from the US to the Philippines. Older American men 60+ date and marry 20 year old women. I met this one couple American 92 and wife is 21. It’s a normal thing here.

  3. Nope, totally fine. You’re both adults. You do you, fuck the haters.

Disclosure – 42M, dated 26-44 in the last 5 months. Ex is 9 years younger, we got together when she was 20 and I was 29 – 13 years together.
