For context my husband and I are an interracial couple and this was said in my husband’s language and was translated to me by husband with a laugh. This was right after I was introduced as his wife, which I understand enough of the language to recognize. An older family member then made this comment right after. I felt it was a backhanded comment but husband said I just don’t understand the culture. How would this make you feel and am I being unreasonable for feeling upset?

Yes it sounds terrible. Although in their defense there are a great deal of jokes that do not translate well.
Maybe it’s just a saying in their culture?
Id be pissed off. But I also come from a culture where it’s normalised to say some out of pocket nonsense. Not that it justifies it
It’s worth ignoring and it’s worth dying for. Both ok.
Chose your battles very carefully.
In my recent comment, said having chemotherapy for common cold is not wise. But you do you.
