Well, it’s that time of the decade. I’ve been laid off. I have plenty of savings and unemployment and am in good spirits. But, the data show that men suffer mentally during these times. How do I stay sane? And is staying sane synonymous with traditional notions of productivity?

  1. Find another set of skills to learn. I’ve made it a life goal to add as many skill sets to my mind as possible.

  2. Good question about staying sane being synonymous with traditional notions of being productive… Is there a link between the two?

Yes and no, I work at Amazon and I while i’m on my feet for most 10hrs. I don’t feel happy. I don’t feel satisfied. Sane? probably not.

I strongly encourage you to find a new skillset, something you like to do that could net you money. Now would be a great time to start a new project.

  3. I quit almost 2 months ago, i’ve been keeping myself busy with with household projects. I’m gonna look into doing some traveling now.

  4. It depends. If you are the sort of person whose entire identity and personality revolved around their job, it might be difficult. But generally, it should be fairly easy to just focus on other things. Learning and skills, hobbies, reading, friends, fitness, etc. Just create a schedule and stick to it.

  5. If you prepare yourself properly then you can realize this is a good opportunity for you to take on a new industry or learn new skills.

  6. Try to make yourself more marketable, try find a new job, hope people stop voting and electing against both their own self interest and the country’s interest

  7. Don’t stop to think; treat looking for a job like a job (be up at 8 am and keep looking, writing letters, etc, until 5 pm); conserve funds; work out a bit to elevate mood; chill out at night.

    Good luck.

  8. Your new job is looking for a job dude

Take peace in the fact you did nothing wrong and are financially safe from what I’m reading

  9. By getting another job. Dont coast on unemployment. You are more hirable with a job. Everyone I know that lived off unemployment turned into lazy fucks.

  10. I know it’s not all about work, but routine is what helps me keep it together. When I got laid off for more than a few weeks I found a cash job doing local moving and delivery. It wasn’t much but it kept me busy for 20-30 hours a week and helped me hold onto routine

  11. * You should not let the data get into ur mind tbh its just statistics, not necessary as a individual u fall under it.

  12. Be around positive influences and network.
