I’m 17M and had sex for the first time yesterday, but the first condom I used broke, and so did the second one. It wasn’t a huge deal because I noticed both of them break and stopped imediatley, but it was still pretty annoying to have 2 condoms break in a row. I know I put both of them on correctly and that they weren’t expired or anything like that, so I’m assuming it’s because I bought condoms that were too small. How can I make sure I’m buying condoms that are a better fit so that they don’t break during sex?

  1. Condoms usually break for reasons other than size. Damage, incorrect storage, and expiry are the big ones. A small condom can cover your forearm without breaking if it’s in good condition.

To know what size to buy, have a good idea of the size of your penis and the sizes of the condoms are written on the side of the box.

Store them away from sunlight indoors. Don’t carry them in your wallet. Don’t open them with your teeth. Keep an eye on the expiry date written on the box.

I know you said they weren’t expired or anything but potentially they were baking in the sun or sat in someone’s hot car for s long time

  2. When I was new to them we had half a packet break… they turned out to be the same as the ones we were usually sing but with less lube. In my experience condoms breaking is most commonly a lubrication issue and not a size issue. They feel so much better with a bit of lube even if wetness isn’t an issue.

  3. You measure your penis and you buy the best condoms money can buy that fit you personally. And you only use condoms you bought yourself. They are all the same length. It’s girth that differs. Quality condoms are measured by girth. And as you are young, go slowly at first, and think about maybe adding lube to the outside of the condom. Good quality lube. That works with condoms. Like uberlube. If you have a big penis and you’ve stuffed it into a small condom and there’s little lubrication it might break. Get the right condom for you, and consider lube, even for PIV, it might make all the difference.
