Being on Reddit, I’ve (34M) learned that a lot of people have problems with age gaps. I still can’t quite wrap my head around why. I was just thinking about the fact that I never seem to attract women within my age group. It’s always about 10 years in either direction. My exes were 10 and 12 years younger and using OLD, I can only seem to get dates from either 20-somethings and 40-somethings. I’ve no problem with this whatsoever, I was just wondering what are some circumstances that could cause this? Swiping through profiles, it almost seems like a waste of a swipe on 30-year-olds.

Because when there’s a large age gap they aren’t at the same place in life, and when that age gap extends into the early 20’s they aren’t even at the same neurological development.

It creates the perfect opportunity for there to be an unequal relationship where the likely more experienced and more financially stable older partner holds an upper hand. It’s easy for a younger person to be manipulated due to their inexperience and still developing brain, and for them to not yet recognize negative behaviors/attitudes that the older individual may engage in. There may be reasons why they can’t find partners their own age that the younger partner has yet to recognize.

As for attracting your own age, what are you running into with people your own age? Just not matching? Maybe a profile review from a 30s dating subreddit could help identify turn-offs or common red flags for that age bracket.
