I’m an American who has been living in Germany for the past 5 years and was just having a conversation with a British co-worker about the cost of a pint of beer (realizing that UK pints are \~20% larger than US pints) vs local German prices. For reference, I am in Munich.

So, here in Munich a 500 ml beer from tap costs me about $4.40 and the price is relatively uniform across all establishments (biergarten, Indian restaurant, Italian restaurant, hole in the wall pub) with the exception of fine dining. This is for the local beers – Augustiner, Löwenbäu, etc.

When I left Boston for Germany in 2016, I know I could get a pint (US) of PBR for $2 at JJ Foley’s, but that’s really the exception to the rule.

So here’s the question (and please give a general location in the USA): How much does a pint of, let’s say, Sam Adams or Harpoon or Sierra Nevada cost at your local watering hole?

Thank you!

  1. If I’m buying beer on draft, it’s probably a local microbrew. These are something like five or six bucks a pint in Fairbanks.

  2. Ranges from $4-7 for ‘craft’ drafts, depending on establishment, and the craftyness of the craft.

$2.50 – 3.50 for the cheap domestic, sometimes draft, sometimes tallboy.

  3. I’d pay $6-8 per pint for a craft brew depending on the bar. Nicer bars charge more for the atmosphere. Nationally distributed beers like Sierra Nevada would cost closer to $6. Bars usually have discounts throughout the week where you can get like $2 off a pint on some days.

I can also get 4 pints of good beer for $6 in growler form every Friday at a local brewery and take it home.

  4. $2-3 for a shitty domestic like Bud Light, $4-6 for Sam or Sierra Nevada, $5-8 or more for a local/house made brew.

  5. PBR Tallboy is $4.5 at the place I usually go, but I’ve seen it as low as $2.5. They don’t have the American pilsners on tap. The Bud Light tallboy is $5.5

A local craft brew will be anywhere from $5-9 depending on style and whether it’s a year round brew, seasonal, or specialty. Price doesn’t usually change, but the serving size does (will get 8, 10, 12 oz of beers with higher alcohol content or limited release)

  6. My local place doesn’t have a draft, just cans and bottles.

$2 for a miller high life.

  7. 2-3 for domestic beers from nationally known brands.

5-10 for craft or seasonal brews.

  8. Import or Domestic?

    Microbrew or mass produced?

    Fancy place or dive bar?

Too many variables to be accurate.

  9. >So, here in Munich a 500 ml beer from tap costs me about $4.40 and the price is relatively uniform across all establishments

I was paying $10 for half liters of Stiegel and Radeberger in [Hoboken over the weekend](https://www.pilsenerhaus.com/menu/).

Usually I drink at breweries or beer bars that charge about $7-$12 for anywhere from an 8oz pour to a pint. Below are links to the beer menus for all of the beer centric spots I’ve been to in the last couple of weeks.

    >So here’s the question (and please give a general location in the USA): How much does a pint of, let’s say, Sam Adams or Harpoon or Sierra Nevada cost at your local watering hole?

I can’t remember the last time I bought any of these beers in NYC. Guinness and Lagunitas IPA are my non-beer bar go-tos. They’ll run $7-$9 depending on the bar…maybe $6 if it’s happy hour.

  10. You can’t get a pint at the bars around here they only serve 8oz bottles. Haven’t been out in a while but last time I went those were like two or three bucks

  11. 3/4 for a normal beer, and about 5 or 6 for an Abita or something like that. Large football games and stuff obviously the price is gonna be a little inflated.

  12. Between $3-6 depending on beer and waterhole. In raleigh it’s $5-6, back in my home town it’s $3-5

  13. PBR is usually 3 bucks, less on certain days at certain sports bars; 5-6 bucks for sierra Nevada (a California brand made locally), 7-8 bucks for small batch or special stuff. 5-8 for imports.

  14. Miller Lite, norm is $5. Craft beer, norm is $7. Prices can be higher in some places.. but you can also find places that sell $2 Miller Lite’s as well.

  15. My bar only has a few beers on tap, and they’re all craft so the price varies, but it’s usually around 5 bucks for a pint.

Our biggest seller is Busch Light at 2 bucks a 12 oz can. Miller Lite/Coors Light/Budweiser/etc are 3 bucks for a 12 oz can or bottle.

Modelo/Corona/etc are 4 bucks for a bottle. Various canned crafts are anywhere from 4-7 bucks.

  16. First, finding a watering hole that actually sells pints is difficult. Most sell smaller pours. And in my city I would expect to pay $7 for a 12 floz. beer. More for anything even slightly fancy.

  17. At local breweries it’s anywhere from $5-8/pint. Something fancy that comes in a tulip or snifter may run you $9-10.

  18. Local breweries average about $5 a beer, many are only 12 ounces though, so not a true pint.

Prices are roughly the same at bars/restaurants with higher prices at the more “corporate” (for some reason the more branding and “corporate identity” a place has, the more expensive their beer gets) locations and more upscale places.

That being said, with specials (brunch, happy hour, events, etc) it isn’t uncommon to find great beers for $2-3 a pop.

  19. [Here is a beer menu at a relatively hip bar in Detroit. I think all of these prices are for 12oz cans or bottles.](https://goo.gl/maps/QiK2Ykt34ZY5ybW89)

In general I would expect to pay $4-$5 for a 16oz crappy beer draft and $6-$8 for a 16oz craft beer draft. Sometimes if you order a higher ABV beer like an IPA, a bar will give you a smaller glass. You can go cheaper or more expensive depending on how fancy the bar is.

  20. $2-4 for domestic macros.

$4-8 for your average craft brew.

    $8-12 for limited small-batch brews.

  21. Just checked the menu of one of the places near my house – suburbs of NYC – their draft beers go for $6-$8.

  22. Atlanta

At my local spot, it begins at $4 for domestics, and works it’s way up to $8 as it becomes more niche. Coors Light $4. Blind Pirate IPA? $8.

  23. Recently I had a Wild Horse amber at Great Basin and it was $4.50. I also had a Supplication sour at Russian River and it was something like $12. Sours tend to be more expensive and RRB tends to be more expensive in general.

  24. I’m in Switzerland.

    $7-$8 for local/domestic beers

$8-$10 for import beers like Guinness, Punk I.P.A, Erdinger, etc.

  25. $3-4 for your standard domestics and popular imports like Corona. Craft has a pretty wide range, but they usually start at around $5 and can get up above $10 for limited releases or obscure imported beers.

  26. 5 dollar pitchers of shitty draft beer( idk how much is even in this but it has to be at least or greater than a 2 liter) at your local dive bar on Wednesday

  27. Dive Bar: $5 to $8

Brewery or Regular Bar: $6 to $10

    Lounge: $7 to $12

    Club: $11 to $15

  28. I haven’t been inside a bar in like 7 years. I’m glad the prices haven’t gone thru the roof!

  29. It was $5-6 but i haven’t been to a bar since covidflation so it’s probably $8 now.

  30. $4 to maybe $8 roughly, not counting super crafty high ABV stuff that gets into double digits. You can get drafts of something real basic like PBR, Kenzinger, or Yueng at some places for less than 4. Philadelphia.

  31. Domestic light and cold $2.

Yuengling is up to an obscene $3 at one corner bar.

    Craft beer wildly varies.

  32. Urban area of Alabama. I know a pint of Guinness from the local Irish pub costs $6, and I can get a 6-pack of it from the liquor store for $9, so the answer is ‘too much’ lol. Might be cheaper at other places, but I don’t really frequent bars so all I got is the pub.

  33. Generally like $3-4 for domestic American (Bush, Budweiser) and $5-$7 for craft beers or imports. If course it depends, this isn’t ‘airport’ prices 🤣

  34. Depends on the day. Thirsty Thursday special has PBR tall boys at $0.75 apiece.

I had to stop going on Thursdays.

Usually mass produced domestics run $3-5, craft $5-7.

It may have gone up, though, I generally prefer to drink at home.

  35. I’m sorry. I don’t understand the question. You started off talking about beer and then went on to PBR. ???

  36. The Asheville, NC Sierra Nevada IS my local watering hole. It costs $6-$8 there. $10 or $11 for special bois.
Oskar Blues (Dales Pale Ale) is also in my town – same range there, about $6-$8.

  37. I mostly get craft beer from a brewery when I get a beer here in Grand Rapids, and the price is usually around $5-$6 depending on the style of beer. I haven’t bought a domestic macrobrewed beer at a bar here in a while so I don’t know how much a Budweiser would cost if I got one.

  38. Austin. Most places are $6 to $8. There are definitely places you can buy $2 beers though.
